Worried About Sedation? Here’s Why You Should Consider It
There are plenty of procedures that involve the use of sedation. This practice is used with only our patient’s comfort in mind- we realize that a trip to the dentist isn’t always a walk in the park. Allow us to ease your mind; here are the reasons why you would want to choose sedation the next time you visit the dentist.
We know of plenty of patients that suffer from dental phobia and we do whatever we can to help you through this. Sounds, smells or even things you see can give way to severe anxiety so in order to help the procedure go smoothly, you can consider sedation.
There is a high assumption that all dental procedures causes pain to some degree, which isn’t necessarily true. However, if the thought of visiting a dentist makes you uneasy purely because of the thought of pain, you can always opt for sedation.
Helps with claustrophobia
Dental procedures involve the use of different tools, including a dental dam, which is a rubber sheet laid over the mouth to help isolate a particular tooth to be worked on. In these instances, it’s not uncommon for people with claustrophobia to feel discomfort. Sedation will help with these nerves.
Helps control gag reflex
It’s normal for people to have a strong gag reflex, but this can make them very uncomfortable during dental procedures so sedation will help ease the process.
Passes time faster
Some treatments (root canal, for example) can take a long time to complete and if you’re someone who finds it hard to sit still in one place, sedation is something that will definitely help the time pass by faster!
